Been a while, folks! We all know that the last few weeks were a little bit too much to stomach. I would not even begin to re-open the sad memories cast upon many by typhoon Ondoy. The silver lining in this, however, can be seen through the helping hands of many of our fellowmen.

If YOU, Mr./Ms. Reader, are one of these kindhearted individuals who shared their time (that was a whole week) for the cause, a big thanks and congrats partner!

Music-wise, the past month has brought us some gems. Jay-Z once again cemented his status as the top dog of the hip-hop game with his latest release, The Blueprint 3. The album may not appeal much to a lot of hip-hop heads because of it being a notch below the hype it created earlier in the year, but one cannot deny the power and the ruckus that was brought about by the album’s latest offering, “Empire State of Mind”. The Alicia Keys co-starrer is more than an ode to New York. It is an anthem. One that can be heard and felt by anyone, even outside of the state.

A lot of bangers from the September releases. Here are the five standouts from the past month (click to listen/download):

Jay-Z Feat. Alicia Keys – Empire State of Mind [Roc Nation]

Major Lazer Feat. Nina Sky & Ricky Blaze – Keep it Goin’ Louder [Mad Decent]

Drake Feat. Lil Wayne, KanYe West & Eminem – Forever [Young Money]

Duck Sauce – You’re Nasty [Fool’s Gold]

Udachi + Jubilee – Paypur (Nick Catchdubs Remix feat. The Kid Daytona) [Nightshifters]
