Heartbreak kids

Powerade Team Pilipinas held a nine point lead early in the 4th quarter, but was overtaken by Korea late in the game, and they win it 82-80 via Yang Donggeun‘s driving lay-in. Philippines end up 8th in the tourney. Better than 2007’s 9th?

Taipei, again no disrespect, finished 5th?? with that, I don’t think this is an improvement from the past FIBA Asia tiff. We played well and we played with heart. But is there a vast improvement overall? I’d say not really. However, this is not the time to criticize the guys, let’s give them credit. I just think this should be a wake-up call for our officials in handling our national team. This isn’t just an all-star compilation in some exhibition tourney. We should build a team that will compete internationally. So that we can convince the world that the Philippines is really a basketball Mecca.

Korea 82 – Oh 31, Kim 15, Kang 10, Lee 9, Yang 9, Yang D. 6, Lee D.J 2.

Philippines 80 – Baguio 17, Thoss 15, Raymundo 14, Taulava 9, Dillinger 9, Santos 6, Norwood 5, Yap 3, Helterbrand 2.

Quarterscores: 26-19; 43-42; 62-62; 82-80.
